Skill Fair

In modern society, each student needs to master soft-skills that help in interacting with people around him, planning, managing his time, emotional state. In this regard, an educational event was organized for students in grades 10-11 of the school to implement a study on the topic “Metacognitive skills – as a factor in student success.” As we know, metacognitive skills are knowledge about one’s own cognition. Activity aimed at the study of their thought processes, their regulation and control, which was first mentioned in 1776 by John Flavell. This study was a continuation of last year’s work with students.

Based on the results of a preliminary survey of students, it became necessary to develop such skills as “Emotional Intelligence”, “Stress Resistance”, “Time Management” and “Oratory”. Therefore, the teachers-organizers-curators G. Orunkhanova, M. Biakhmetova, A. Akhmetova, D. Nurgazina, together with the teachers-psychologists M. Kochetova, A. Zholamanova, Zh. Mukhametkalieva, organized an event on the theme “Skills Fair”. Parents and teachers were invited along with the students. Students were able to express metacognitive skills such as self-organization, self-expression, self-assessment, planning, public speaking skills through games and trainings. In order to create an emotional mood, the participants of the fair at the very beginning of the event were offered the training “Good step”. Parents, teachers and students formed into groups according to colors, performed tasks and games at stations marked with special colors.

At this event, various educational games and exercises were organized in the areas of “Psychological bath”, “Soz sheberi”, “Squirrel in the wheel”, “Kyzyk Times”. During the coffee break “Snack time” each group shared their impressions of the event. Members of the Leadership Council took an active part in the games and trainings.

Based on the survey, focus groups of students with poorly developed metacognitive skills were identified, for the improvement of which further work is planned.
