Social initiatives are aimed at strengthening the social cohesion of our society and enriching the spiritual values of each person.
In the framework of the “Serving society” project, the social-voluntary partnership of our school with “Lingua Town” language school, which has been going on for the third year, was continued by 9th grade volunteers. 8-9 grade students from low-income families study at this school. The main objective of the project is to increase English speaking level of students of both schools, to develop leadership skills through trainings, games and meetings with foreign teachers.
Our first meeting with Lingua Town students raised our spirits. However, the problem with the English language was obvious.
First, we realized that we had a great opportunity to improve our fluent speaking skills in English.
Secondly, the children improved their leadership through teamwork. The games that we prepared for teamwork allowed us to identify leaders among children.            For example, through the game “Portrait of a Man” Alisher from group 3 demonstrated that he could be a leader.
Thirdly, the relations between students, teachers and foreign teachers were improved. During the game called “Trust” the children got to know each other better. And I got closer acquainted with foreign teachers.
At the second meeting, Miss Rosanette Luther organized a trip to the USA and told how Halloween is celebrated. Then, through group work, the students not only got acquainted with the history of the Halloween holiday, but also made with their own hands the symbols of this holiday. As a result, the students understood the purpose of celebrating Halloween and shared their impressions and told that some elements used during celebration have similarities with Kazakh people’s holiday – Ayt.
At the third meeting, a foreign biology teacher Loxton Antoinette Michelle held a lesson on the topic “Interesting laboratory works”. The students showed great interest in this lesson. Because students conducting various studies had been able to develop their English skills and improve their knowledge of biology. Yes, these meetings were surely helpful and exciting. On the one hand, the students developed not only their self-confidence, leadership skills, teamwork and English speaking skills, and learned to express own opinions, but also found friends.
