NIS Semey Students Attend 1st Annual Central Asia MUN Sponsored By The Foundation of the 1st President of the Republic!

On the 21st and 22nd of September 2018, NIS Semey students participated in a historic event known as the first international Central Asia Model United Nations (CAMUN) which will be held annually in Astana and seek to become a principle MUN not only for Kazakhstan but all Central Asia. CAMUN was sponsored by both the Foundation and the Library of the 1st President of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with various United Nations offices and leading educational institutions in Kazakhstan. The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Director of the President’s Foundation, the Deputy Director of the President’s Library, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roman Vassilenko, and the UN IOM Coordinator for Cental Asia Dejan Keserovic.
CAMUN is an international dialogue platform, held through discussion of global ideas within the UN, where youth reproduce the work of UN bodies. The purpose of each meeting is to discuss the set issues and adopt a resolution. “It is pleasant to note that it was in Astana, within the walls of the Nazarbayev Center, that the conference began in the framework of the “International Model of the UN of Central Asia”. The Foundation of the First President actively supports the holding of such venues, and also works on the implementation of a number of projects for young people, helping talented children realize their potential in science, creativity and culture. I am convinced that today’s discussion of topical issues will contribute to the formation of an active young generation committed to universal human values and aspiring to address topical issues of our time. Along with this, young people have the opportunity to acquire diplomatic, leadership, speaking and language skills” said Sultan Aitzhanov, Deputy Executive Director of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Elbasy.
12th grade NIS Semey student Mukhammedali Ibragim won ‘Best Position Paper’ and 11th grade Aruzhan Stakhan won ‘Honorable Mention’. 12th grade students Altynay Zamanbekova and Emiliya Kaizel served as committee Co-Chairs. NIS Semey was thanked for its valuable assistance and contribution to CAMUN.
CAMUN was an important experience for both NIS Semey students and teachers not only for academic purposes but also for the valuable networking opportunity that resulted in connecting with other students, teachers, and diplomatic personnel from around the world!
