Semey intellectuals explore their homeland

Students of the 11th grade of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Semey explore the history of their native land. With the support of the school leadership and teachers, young researchers visited the sacred places of the Abay and Zharma regions. During the educational journey, they collected information about the history of the regions, paying attention to the geographical features and biodiversity of the region.

– It is not out of place to say that the project “Tugan elge tagzym” carried out among the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools aroused particular interest among our schoolchildren. We have many students who traditionally participate in this project with a variety of topics and surprise with their scientific works. However, our support is needed to develop their research skills. Taking this into account, we specially chose the directions, popularly known as sacral – the Konyr Aulie cave, Bayanbay ata when visiting the districts, – says the head of the Methodist association for history and geography Zhanat Amangozhin.

For more than a year our students Ilyas Zhumadilov, Ayana Mirbulatova, Aidana Ispaeva, Alima Babakpayeva and Amina Berekenova have been engaged in their research in this direction. Having first received general information, today they began to study more deeply the objects selected for research.

– Our research project, which we are conducting with Amina, is called “Development of the Bayanbai ata tourist route.” It seems that to learn more about this place, famous for its healing properties, interesting to many. We are doing research to give the population more information. If earlier we heard about many facts about this holy place, now we have seen it with our own eyes and intend to determine the composition of the local water and soil. We will not forget about the study of plants that grow here, – said Alima Babakpayeva.

According to young scientists, they have already created a special site where there is a map showing the road to Bayanbay ata. At the same time, there are photographs, a short informational and educational film prepared specially for the site. And the second group of researchers, which deals with the riddles of Konyr Aulie, has already measured the temperature of the water and air in the cave, not disregarding the chemical composition of the soil and the biological diversity of the area. Collected historical facts, legends and stories about this sacred place.

According to one of the project leaders, Maksat Kudageldin, students’ works are distinguished by an integrated approach. The study of the sacred places of Konyr Aulie and Bayanbay ata was a continuation of their work on sacred places: earlier in June, the school’s intellectuals participated in archaeological research carried out in the Ak-Bauyr gorge, and, having listened to the advice of scientists from Nazarbayev University, continued their research. The next project, in their plan, is the sacred place Yrgyzbay ata, which has long been popular with tourists. All these trips will allow the young explorer to learn more about the history of his native land.
