“The Dawns Here are Quiet”

On the eve of Victory Day, I read the story “The Dawns Here are Quiet” by Boris Vasilyev. I was impressed by this book, even more, when I saw its film adaptation. The film “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” is dedicated to the theme of National heroism. The film shows only a few days of the Great Patriotic War, reflecting the essence of that terrible time.

1942, May. The main characters, Liza, Sonya, Galya, Zhenya, Rita, arrived at the service. During a self-willed sortie, Rita, the commander of the squad, discovered two fascist saboteurs. Having received the order to neutralize the enemy, antiaircrafters, led by a petty officer Vaskov, went into the battle of local significance, which would become the heroic act in the name of the Motherland!

The film made an indelible impression on me. I laughed with the girls when they had fun, I cried with them when they could not cope with the pressure. I experienced fear, longing, and grief of loss. The Director of the film S. Rostotsky showed the life of the young girls, he touched the heart of every viewer of the picture. The fact that I went through five completely different lives while watching this film was undoubtedly the merit of the great director.

At the beginning of the film, when the girls arrived in the village, we heard the birds singing, the ticking of the clock, the splashing of water. This created a feeling of calm. But peace was torn by shots, the whistle of bullets. This sharp contrast allowed the viewer to feel how scary it was to be there, on the battlefield.

The wartime footage were shot in black and white, but the girls’ memories of a peaceful life were full of bright colors. I think that the author wanted to say in war there was only white and black – good and evil. In war, there is no place for feelings, emotions, happiness. There is only white – your comrades, black – enemies.

This wonderful film made me think about many things: sincere love, true friendship, the mercilessness of war. The heroines of the film fought for their relatives; their love for homeland made them strong. The girls died at the hands of the Nazis, they did not live a life that they could devote to their families and children. The beautiful, laughing, tender girls killed in a battle by the death of the brave.

I want to recommend this film to young viewers because they must remember the price of Victory. I want them to remember all the heroes who gave their lives for the bright sky above our heads.
