An online debate on a Victory Day

Despite the fact that 75 years have passed since the end of the World War II, and the history of which has not yet been forgotten, it still opens the new pages for us. The heroic things and reckless courage of the people of that time at the front and in the rear, who did everything to raise the flag of the victory, became a role model for the next generation. In order to glorify the courage of our heroic grandparents and recall the past, the remote online debates were held among 10-11th grade students of “Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Semey”. The online debate on topic “The World War II was inevitable” was based on the rules of the debate in Karl Popper format.

“To know the past is the interest of all of us. In particular, many students are interested in the theme of the World War II. The students often ask questions during the lesson regarding this topic. We explain that it was not easy to reach the victory. In today’s online debate, our students have clearly demonstrated their position based on actual and official data. I am very pleased that they give a fair assessment of the Second World War”, said Bauyrzhan Serikovich, a History teacher and a debate jury.

During the debate, various data, materials, facts and statistics related to the Great Patriotic War were analyzed and presented. All speakers were thoroughly prepared. It should also be noted that the debate was held separately in the Kazakh and Russian Leagues.

“The only truth about which, we all know, is that the War was managed to be won thanks to the steadfastness of the citizens of the Soviet era, thanks to their true love for the Motherland and strong patriotism. I believe that this quality should be passed on to future generations. Having participated in the debate, I would like to once again thank our heroes – grandparents and say that I owe them”, said Aruzhan Tokanova, a 10th grade student.

Although the debate was conducted online, the discussions were full of controversies. Each participant shared specific suggestions. According to the results of the debate, the “Government” teams won in both Leagues. The 10th grade students: Yerlan Yegisbekov, Dalila Gafarova, 11th grade students: Adilzhan Kurmangali and Nargiz Zhakupova received the nomination of the “Best Speaker”. The teams-winners and participants were awarded with diplomas.
