A Model United Nations Conference was held once again.

The third annual conference of the Model United Nations was held at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Semey on March 18-19. It was attended by delegates from local schools, KIU University, as well as from Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools of Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Astana. The total number of participants in the Model UN was about 120 people. Valikhan Bakhretdinov, Head of the Coordination Center of the Central Asia Model UN, was invited to speak at the opening ceremony of the conference. In addition, Dinara Sadvakasova, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Kazakhstan and the four-time World Chess Champion, recorded a video message, which, along with the achievements of UNICEF, also emphasizes the importance of the interest of the young generation in solving global problems. The committees that functioned this year included the UN Security Council, the UN Environment Program, the World Health Organization, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN Human Rights Council. Two days of the conference were very fruitful for each of the six committees. At the closing ceremony, 13 delegates were awarded with such nominations as “Best Delegate”, “Honorable Mention” and “Best Position Paper”. This year’s conference was distinguished not only by the high quality of the debates and the participation of delegates from other cities, but also by actively accompanying social events that brought the participants together.
